TN Govt to Launch Home of Chess After Gukesh’s Win: Stalin

CHENNAI, DEC 17 :Buoyed by the historic achievement of 18-year-old Gukesh, who became the World’s youngest Chess champion, the Tamil Nadu government will set up a special academy named ‘Home of Chess’ to create more Champions and Grand Masters (GMs) from the State, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Tuesday.

Speaking at a grand felicitation function organised by the govrnment for the newly crowned World Chess Champion D Gukesh, he said in a bid to create more quality Chess players among both men and women, a Special Academy ‘Home of Chess’ will be set up.

Mr Stalin, who presented a cheque for Rs five crore as award announced by him to Gukesh on his historic achievement on becoming the World’s youngest Chess champion, he said the academy will create more champions and GMs from the State.

“Following the confidence given by Gukesh upon winning the World Title, I firmly believe that this will lead to emergence of more GMs in the State”, he added.

Mr Stalin said Gukesh became the Grand Master at the age of 18 and has now become a World Champion and achieve this feat he has just taken 11 years.

He hailed his hardwork, perseverance, self confidence and his journey towards attaining the goal–all this will serve as an inspiration for the Tamil Nadu youth who should learn from it.
