Mehidy’s tenth five-fer knocks out Pakistan as the host team falters for 274

RAWLPINDI, AUG31 :  Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed his 10th five-wicket haul as Pakistan’s innings collapsed for 274 on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Despite half-centuries from top-order batters Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha, the home side could not build a solid foundation. Ayub top-scored with 58, while Masood and Agha contributed 57 and 54 respectively. Their efforts, however, were undone by Mehidy, who finished with figures of 5 for 61. Taskin Ahmed also made an impact with 3 for 57.
Pakistan’s innings was marked by a promising 107-run partnership between Ayub and Masood, which was followed by a dramatic collapse as they lost nine wickets for 167 runs. Mehidy’s spell dismantled the middle and lower order, dismissing key players including Ayub, Masood, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, and Abrar Ahmed. Taskin’s early removal of Abdullah Shafique and subsequent wickets of Saud Shakeel and Salman Ali Agha further compounded Pakistan’s woes.

Notable contributions came from Salman Ali Agha with a resilient 95-ball innings, which included three fours and two sixes, though he was eventually the ninth wicket to fall. Shan Masood’s aggressive 57 off 69 balls and Saim Ayub’s balanced 58 were significant but not enough to prevent the collapse.

Bangladesh ended the day at 10 without loss, with Shadman Islam on six and Zakir Hasan yet to bat. The match stands poised as Bangladesh aims to build on their advantageous position.
