Malvika stuns Nehwal, enters QF
New Delhi, Jan 13 :Young Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod ousted experienced Saina Nehwal in the India Open here Today.
The youngster registered a straight sets 21-17, 21-9 victory over Nehwal to seal the quarterfinal berth.
“It was a great match against Saina. It was my first meeting with her and I won, so it was a great experience,” Bansod said.
“She has always been my idol since I was a kid. So it was a dream come true to play against her at such a big event in India. This win has definitely given me the confidence for further rounds,” she added.
In the other women’s singles match, Aakarshi Kashyap paved her way into the quarterfinal with a 21-10, 21-10 win over compatriot Keyura Mopati.
In the quarters, Kashyap and Bansod will clash for a spot in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Anupama Upadhyaya lost to third seed Yeo Jia Min of Singapore after taking the first set 21-13, 7-21, 12-21 in a second round encounter.
In the mixed doubles, Kashish Sharma and Saruni Sharma went down 21-6, 21-8 to Chan Peng Soon-Valeree Siow of Malaysia.(UNI)
