Maha: The under-11 Open FIDE rating Chess Championship is won by Aditya Kadam and Anuja Koli
KOLHAPUR, SEP 1 : Aditya Kadam (Mumbai) and Anuja Koli (Sangli) won the under-11 Open FIDE rating Chess Championship in boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively, here on last day, on Sunday and secured a place for themselves in Maharashtra squad for upcoming national selection tournament.
While Reyansh Vankat (Mumbai) and Bhumika Wagale (Sambhajinagar) were first runners-up.
The three-day competition, organised by Chess Association Kolhapur under the aegis of Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Association and FIDE, was held at Karveer Hall of the city.
In the boys’ category, after a drawn match between 11th-ranked Aditya Kadam (Mumbai) and ninth-ranked Reyansh Vankat (Mumbai), Aditya won championship in eighth round with seven points.
Reyansh became first runners-up with 6.5 points and 40 Bakolz superior points, while 13th-ranked Shaurya Bangdiya (Kolhapur) was second runners-up.
In girls’ category, Anuja Koli (Sangli) checked Bhumika Wagale in a draw in eighth round with 6.5 points each along with Bakolz tie-break 39.5 points.
Anuja won the championship, while Bhumika was satisfied with being first runners-up and Uttara Kartik ended up as second runners-up.
Winners Aditya and Anuja were honoured with cash prize of Rs 3,500 each and a cup, while the runners-up got Rs 2,000 and a cup each in both categories.
Accordingly, five winners from boys and two winners from girls have been selected for National selection Chess competition, which will be held from October 4 to 10 in Hyderabad.
Boys: Aditya Kadam (Mumbai), Reyansh Vankat (Mumbai), Kushagra Palival (Nagpur), Vivan Soni (Kolhapur) and Shaurya Bangdiya.
Girls: Anuja Koli (Sangli) and Bhumika Wagale (Sambhajinagar).(UNI)
