KIUG will help prepare int’l level athletes: Anurag Thakur

New Delhi, April 23 : On the eve of the Khelo India University Games, the Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday said the KIUG will help prepare international level sportspersons. The second edition of the KIUG 2021 will be hosted in Bengaluru and M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India, will inaugurate the event at 4 PM at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Sunday. Thakur, who was briefing media persons in New Delhi, added the University Games is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed the participants in the first edition of the Games. The Union Minister also spoke about the importance of the University Games as the bedrock of athletes who will represent India in major international tournaments including, the Olympics. The KIUG 2021 will witness over 4,500 participants from around 190 universities. They will participate across 20 disciplines, which include indigenous sports like Mallakhamba and yogasana.(UNI)
