J&K to have new sports policy
Srinagar, Sep 1: Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) will have a new sports policy that is aimed at providing an opportunity to all citizens to participate in sports, develop, maintain and optimally utilize high-quality sports infrastructure.
An official spokesman said this evening that Advisor to Lt Governor, Farooq Khan, Wednesday chaired a meeting regarding the formulation of sports policy for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Director Youth Services and Sports, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Director Budget, Special Secretary Law Department, and Additional Secretary, General Administrative Department (GAD).
The meeting was informed that the proposed sports policy is aimed at providing the opportunity to all citizens to participate in sports, develop, maintain and optimally utilize high-quality sports infrastructure. Besides, the main focus of this policy would be to channelize youth energy in the right direction for their overall development and reward outstanding sportspersons.
Advisor asked the officers to ensure that the policy would be a comprehensive package for the complete promotion and development of potential sports in the UT. He said taking both education and sports together would prove to be a game-changer towards transforming the lives of youths to new highs for their overall personality development.
“The new sports policy should be formulated based on high ethical standards and values including doping-free games besides impartial and equitable treatment to all players irrespective of any social, political or cultural consideration”, Advisor maintained. (UNI)
