India Open: Arjun-Dhruv, Sameer enter 2nd round
New Delhi, Jan 11 :India’s budding men’s doubles duo MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila reached the second round of India Open Super 500 tournament Today.
Meanwhile Sameer Verma defeated his compatriot Sourabh Verma in the men’s single opening round and sailed into next round.
The Indian duo registered a 18-21, 21-16, 21-15 win over Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Lim Khim Wah of Malaysia. While Sameer defeated Sourabh with ease in straight sets by 21-7, 21-7.
Arjun-Dhruv will be up against the fellow Indian pair of Shaan Bhatnagar and Sai Pratheek in the round two clash. The Bhatnagar-Pratheek ousted the Russian pair of Konstatin Abramov and Rodian Alimov (21-19, 21-19).
Sameer will next face Brian Yang of Canada who defeated Kiran George in the preliminary round.
In other matches, men’s doubles duo Utkarsh Arora and Akshan Shetty progressed to second round with 21-13, 21-12 win over their Indian counterparts Siddharth Jakhar-Lakshay Saroha.
In the women’s doubles, Tanishka Deshpande and Shruti Mundana defeated Palak Arora-Unnati Hooda after coming from one game down 17-21, 21-16, 21-19 and moved into the next round.
In the mixed doubles, Sanjai Srivatsa and Pooja Dandu got past Ayush Agarwal and Shailja Shukla 21-17, 17-21, 21-16 to book their spot in the second round.
On day two of the Super 500 tournament, ace shuttler Saina Nehwal and world championship bronze medalist Lakshya Sen would be seen in action on Wednesday.(UNI)
