IND v WI: ODI series behind closed doors
Ahmedabad, Feb 1 : The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) Today announced that the three-match One-day series against the West Indies will be played behind closed doors. “We are all set to host the West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. The first ODI on February 6 will be very special and historic as India will be playing its 1,000th ODI. The Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat,” GCA tweeted. “Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind closed doors,” it added. India is scheduled to play three ODIs against the West Indies from February 6 to 11 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad followed by T20s at the Edens Garden in Kolkata. On Monday, the Cricket Association of Bengal announced the availability of 75 per cent of the capacity of spectators in the stadium for the T20 series against the West Indies. CAB President Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement: “We are thankful to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 per cent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium. “It may be recalled that CAB had organised a T20 match against New Zealand successfully in November 2021 with players and support staff in bio-secure environment and with 70 per cent cricket lovers in attendance. “This time too, CAB is confident that it will be able to successfully host the three T20 international matches against the West Indies in a similar manner,” the statement read.(UNI)
