Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 to lift Copa America trophy after 28 years
Rio de Janeiro, Jul 11: Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 to win its first Copa America title since 1993 at the iconic Maracana Stadium here.
Ángel Di Maria scored the only goal in the final in the 22nd minute. It was Argentina’s 15th Copa America title. It is also Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s first major tournament win with his national side. It was the same stadium where Messi-led Argentina was defeated by Germany in the 2014 World Cup Final.
Both Argentina and Brazil had topped their respective groups in the tournament.
Around 7,000 invited guests were allowed to watch the final owing to Covid-19 restrictions. (UNI)
