Athletics to be revolutionized in J&K: Principal Secy
Jammu, Mar 21 :Asserting that latest equipment to strengthen the game in entire region shall be procured soon, Principal Secretary to Youth Services and Sports Department J&K, Alok Kumar on Sunday said that the ‘mother of all’, athletics will be revolutionised in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of 19th J&K Athletics Championship, organised by J&K Armature Athletics Association, in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, here at the University of Jammu, Mr Kumar said, “athletics would be “revolutionized” in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Impressed with the large participation and growing interest in Athletics, which is called the “mother of all” games, Mr. Alok Kumar said, “athletics would get special attention and latest equipment to strengthen the game in entire region shall be procured soon”.
He said, government is not only on mission to improve sports infrastructure in the region but also working to keep every sport abreast with the latest equipment required for training.
While appreciating the role of J&K Sports Council, University of Jammu, Department of Youth Services and Sports for collaborating with the JKAAA in successful conduct of the competition, Mr Alok Kumar also praised the J&K Police for logistic support of the event which was held under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
More than 500 athletes participated in the three-day long Championship. Events for various categories like U-14, U-16, U-18, U-20 open and open categories were held in which large number of athletes both Boys and Girls participated.
Director General, Youth Services and Sports Dr. Saleem-Ur Rehman and Ms Nuzhat Gull, Secretary J&K Sports Council were Guest of Honour in the concluding ceremony.
Secretary J&K Olympic Association Mr Dushyant Sharma and other officials were also present on the occasion along with large number of sports enthusiasts.
Athletes from almost all districts of J&K participated in 60mtr, 100mtr, 200mtr, 300mtr, 400mtr, 800mtr, 1500mtr, 5000mtr, 10,000mtr, 4×100mtr Relay Race, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot-Put and Discus Throw events.
The Chief Guest, however, also felicitated all the technical and other officials involved in the conduct of the competition.(UNI)
