India’s women’s recurve archery squad is not selected for the Paris Olympics.
ANTALYA, JUNE 14 : The Indian women’s recurve archery team, led by Deepika Kumari, was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Final World Quota Tournament, missing the opportunity to secure a spot for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Team India, ranked fifth and consisting of Deepika, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, lost to Ukraine’s team, which included Veronika Marchenko, Anastasia Pavlova, and Olha Chebotarenko.
India initially led Ukraine 3-1 after two sets but ultimately lost the match with a final score of 5-3.
Teams that advanced to the semifinals earned Olympic quotas for their countries. India, who received a bye in the first round, finished fifth in the qualifying round with a score of 1978 points, behind China (1996), Japan (1991), Spain (1990), and Chinese Taipei (1982).
A total of 39 teams competed for four Olympic spots in the women’s recurve archery team event. Indian archers will have another chance to secure an individual Olympic spot on Sunday.
In Turkey, nations can obtain either a team quota (three archers) or an individual quota (one archer) per gender for the Paris 2024 Summer Games.(UNI)
