Kolhapur’s Sammed Shetye wins the Khasdar Cup.

KOLHAPUR, DEC 25    :    International master Sammed Shetye from the city defeated seventh-ranked Mudassar Patel in All India Open Rapid Chess Championship held at Rajmata Jijau hall (Shivaji University) on Monday and won the Khasdar (MP) Cup.

Playing with Swiss League format, Shetye captured championship after final ninth round with 8.5 points out of nine and won cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with the cup.

While Mudassar Patel from Miraj town was first runners-up with eight points and got cash prize of Rs 12,000 along with a trophy.

Eighth-ranked Namit Chavan of Pune was second runners-up with eight points, who got cash award of Rs 8,000 and a trophy.

The award distribution function was held in presence of Prithivraj Mahadik, president of Dhananjay Mahadik Yuva Shakti and Vaishnvi Mahadik.

The Championship was organised jointly by Chess Association Kolhapur and Anyaj Chess Club, an initiative of BJP MP Dhananjay Mahadik.(UNI)
