IBA dissolves three federations and accepts four new ones.
DUBAI, DEC 10 : The International Boxing Association (IBA) voted to approve the memberships of four federations while terminating three at its Congress here on Saturday.
Swiss Boxing was welcomed back following its resignation from IBA under new leadership, a direction that was then reversed at their last General Assembly. Granted provisional membership by IBA before the Congress, members supported the return by a majority of vote.
The approved federations also include the U.S. Boxing Federation, a new organization led by Roy Jones Jr and formed following the disaffiliation of USA Boxing. Oceania gained two new members as the Norfolk Island Boxing Association and Tuvalu Amateur Boxing Association were accepted.
Meanwhile, the Congress approved to terminate memberships of the Czech Boxing Association, German Boxing Association and Dutch Boxing Federation.
Following these terminations, IBA president Umar Kremlev said IBA will welcome other organizations from countries no longer associated with the governing body.
The IBA also announced the event calendar for 2024, which is set to include 16 Champions’ Nights, an increase from 10 this year.
The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, while Armenia is in talks over the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships.(UNI)
