India wins the opening session, cutting the lead to 64/4 at lunch.
Dominica, July : India dominated the first session of the first day of the first Test as they sent West Indies reeling at 64/4 at lunch at Windsor Park here on Wednesday. After calling the toss right, West Indies opted to bat first. Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul gave a steady start to the hosts with sheer robustness.Ravichandran Ashwin gave India the first breakthrough with a piece of magic just before drinks. He castled Chanderpaul (12) as he pressed forward in defence to a drifting ball.Next, Brathwaite (20, 3x4s) gifted his wicket away by attempting an horrendous slog across the line and holing out to Rohit Sharma at cover. This left West Indies in a spot of bother as they were 38/2 in 16.3 overs.Raymon Reifer (2) was the next to go as Shardul Thakur managed to nick him off to Ishan Kishan behind the stumps who took a lovely catch leaping to his left and stretching his arms forward to get his gloves under it. The third-umpire had a look, and was satisfied fairly quickly.Following this, Jermaine Blackwood (14) and debutant Alick Athanaze stabilised West Indies innings with a glimpse of grit and determination. Just when they looked to remain unbeaten at lunch, Blackwood sliced Ravindra Jadeja towards mid-off where Mohammad Siraj back-pedalled and stuck a right-hand out to grab a stunner. When the umpires called for the end of the first session, Athanaze was batting on 13 off 26 balls with 2 boundaries.
