Unnati will lead India’s defense in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships.
NEW DELHI NOV 29: Unnati Hooda, a promising shuttler, will spearhead India’s effort in the Badminton Asia U-17 and U-15 Junior Championships.
For the Championship, which will take place from November 29 to December 4, a 36-member Indian delegation departed for Nonthaburi, Thailand.
A two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic will be followed by the premier continental event.
Tanvi Sharma, who won the trials, will participate in the women’s U-15 singles alongside Ishita Negi, Suhasi Verma, and Sampriti Pal, while Unnati, the winner of the Odisha Open, will lead the effort in the U-17 women’s singles alongside Jiya Rawat and Anmol Kharb.
In the most recent competition, held in 2019, Tasnim Mir and Tara Shah won gold and silver medals in the U-15 women’s singles, respectively.
Through the selection trials, which were held in Hyderabad last month, the players were chosen.
In the U-15 men’s singles, Gnana Dattu, Abhinav Garg, Mohammad Ali Mir, and Anish Thoppani will be the players to watch out for.
On the other side, Dhruv Negi, Ansh Negi, Prajwal Sonawane, and Neer Nehwal will be in charge of the U-17 men’s singles.
Arsh Mohammad and Sanskar Saraswat, Divyam Arora and Mayank Rana, and the doubles team of Bjorn Jaison and Aatish Sreenivas PV will be India’s best bets in the men’s U-17 and men’s U-15 categories, respectively, of the doubles competition.
In the U-17 women’s doubles division, Vennala K and Shriyanshi Valishetty will compete alongside Navya Kanderi and Rakshita Sree S. The women’s U-15 doubles squad consists of Aanya Bisht and Siddhi Rawat, Tanvi Andluri and Durga Kandrapu, and others.
The chosen players also took part in a 12-day national camp in Raipur from November 14–25 as part of their tournament preparations.
