30 teams to participate in Gen Rawat cricket tourney
Jammu, March 2 :As many as 30 teams will be taking part in the first ever General Bipin Rawat Memorial Cricket Tournament inaugurated on Wednesday at Mendhar in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The tournament was inaugurated under the aegis of Ace of Spades Gunners at OP Hill stadium in Mendhar. Defence Spokesman, Lt Col Devender Anand said that about 30 teams of border villages of Mendhar, Rajouri and Poonch areas are participating in the tournament being conducted on a knock out basis. The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Dream 11 and 11 Star Gursai team. The cricket tournament is being organized by Mendhar Youth led by Pankaj Sharma and Balram Sharma, President, Snatan Dharam Sabha Mendhar with assistance from Mendhar Gunners to create a conducive atmosphere for youth. The tournament is homage to the late Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and is a testimony of Indian Army’s commitment to provide a platform to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to showcase their talent and channelize their energy in a progressive manner.
