India Open: Manu-Sumeeth withdraw from doubles
New Delhi, Jan 11 : India’s experienced men’s doubles pair, B Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Atri, has withdrawn from the India Open Super 500 tournament Today.
However, Sumeeth will be in action in mixed doubles event alongside his partner Ashwini Ponnappa, with the pair taking on second seeds Russian duo of Rodion Alimov and Alina Davletova in the opening round.
In the men’s singles, fourth seed Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand has also pulled out of the competition.
Moreover, women’s players with the likes of eighth seed Indonesian shuttler Fitriani Fitriani and women’s doubles top seed Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Projongjai of Thailand have also announced their withdrawal from the competition.
The reason for their withdrawal is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, England team had pulled out of the tournament, after two of their player and a coach tested positive for Covid-19.
The Super 500 badminton tournament have returned after the gap of two years due to coronavirus pandemic.(UNI)
