India fined for slow over rate

Centurion, Jan 1 : India was Today  penalised 20 per cent of their match fee and one ICC World Test Championships (WTC) point for maintaining a slow over rate in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion.

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a release.

“As per Article 16.11 of the ICC Men’s WTC Playing Conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, India will lose one point from their points tally for this offence,” ICC added.

India lost a total of three points for maintaining a slow overrate, as they lost two points after the Nottingham Test in England.

Currently, the Virat Kohli-led side sits at fourth position in the WTC points table with fifty three points and 63.09 winning percentage after four wins, one loss and two drawn Tests.(UNI)
