Zameer Ahmed, a minister in Karnataka, sparks controversy

BIDAR (KARNATAKA), JUNE 25 : In a dramatic turn of events, Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan sparked controversy on Tuesday with his pointed remarks directed at Minister Eshwara Khandre during the Waqf Adalat in Bidar.

Zameer boldly suggested that Khandre should prioritise the needs of the Muslim community, emphasising the crucial support from Muslim voters that helped Khandre’s son, Sagar Khandre, secure a win in the Lok Sabha elections.

“Is there a cemetery in the forest? If yes, I will make it happen. I will speak to Eshwara Khandre. Eshwara Khandre’s son (Sagar Khandre) has won only because of Muslim votes. He will do our work whether he wants to or not,” Zameer declared, responding to an applicant’s concern about a cemetery.

The controversy erupted when an applicant revealed that a burial ground had been allocated by the Deputy Commissioner in a forest area, but the forest department was refusing to hand over the land.

Zameer’s remarks came amid heated discussions about the denial of land for a cemetery (Qabarastan) due to its location in the forest.

The incident has attracted significant attention and criticism, with many questioning the appropriateness of Zameer’s remarks and their impact on inter-community relations within the state.(UNI)
