Srinagar, Jul 10: Business and other activities were affected due to the weekend COVID-19 lockdown in Srinagar though it had hardly any impact in most parts of the uptown and outskirts.
Public and private transport services were plying normally on all routes in Srinagar, where 59 fresh positive cases were reported on Friday.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve center of the city, Budshah Chowk, Hari Singh High Street (HSHS), Maisuma, Amira Kadal, Goni Khan, and Mahraj Bazar. Business activities also remained affected in Dalgate and most parts of the downtown.
However, the majority of shops and business establishments in the uptown and outskirts were functioning normally. The customers were seen wearing masks and keeping social distancing.
Meanwhile, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said that J&K’s performance is better than many other regions of the country in terms of vaccination, daily testing, and sampling, and advised everyone not to lower their guard against Covid. ”We need to keep following all Standard Operating Procedure (SoPs), Covid Appropriate Behaviour religiously with utmost sensitivity and responsibility,” added the Lt Governor.
Taking a strict note of people flouting Covid protocols, the Lt Governor observed that although the Government has been successful in bringing the situation under control, we cannot afford to lower our guard at this juncture.
Underlining the importance of heightened awareness among the masses to keep the positivity rate and infection rate low, the Lt Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner (DCS) and Superintendent of Police (SPs) for intensifying the awareness campaign at all tourist places ensuring full compliance with the Covid protocol and Covid appropriate behavior by tourists and locals. ”Public parks should allow entries to persons who are inoculated, wearing masks with Covid negative reports. The concerned officials should appoint Nodal officers for strict adherence”.
The Lt Governor directed the DCs and SPs to ensure strict adherence to the already imposed restriction, an official spokesman said. (UNI)
