Water from Radhanagari Dam begins to overflow in Kolhapur, Maharashtra
KOLHAPUR, JULY 25 : The Radhanagari irrigation dam, the main drinking water resource of Kolhapur city and some other tehsils in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district, was filed to its capacity on Thursday, prompting authorities to open its discharge gate to release the excess water, an official said.
According to the district irrigation department, the dam was filled to its maximum capacity of 8.35 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet at 10.05 am.
A total of 2,928 cusec water was discharged from the sixth automatic door into the Bhogavati river, the official.
Meanwhile, with the discharge from the Radhanagari irrigation dam and heavy rainfall in the western parts of the district, the water level of Panchangaga river has been rising rapidly towards the danger mark of 43 feet.
The water level was at 43.1 feet at Rajaram Bandhara at 10 am, official said.
A total of 81 Bandhara (waivers) were submerged by flood water of different rivers in the district, an official said.(UNI)
