Water conservation for future generation is must: Vice President
New Delhi, Mar 22 : Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that the Water conservation is must for the future generation.
Soon after the House assembled at 1100 hrs, Mr Naidu said, “Today, March 22, is World Water Day. This year, the UN theme for the day is ‘valuing water’. With the ever-growing population, demand for water has increased manifold”.
The situation has been further exacerbated by reckless use of water. Our country has 16 per cent of population of the world but we have only 4 per cent of fresh water, he added.
He also said that the importance of water conservation has also been written in the Vedas along with the natural resources like river, lakes and ponds and all important civilizations of the past had flourished along the river banks.
He also said that every drop of water is precious and that should be used judiciously so that the coming general should not be deprived of precious thing.
Appealing the all Member, the Chairman said, “Whatever you want to talk about, you can talk outside the House. Particularly when the Chair is making an observation, it is not fair to cause distraction.”(UNI)
