Panaji, Mar 20 :Voting is underway for the six municipal councils, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), a Zilla Panachayat and 22 wards in Goa.

The municipal councils where the voting is underway are Pernem, Valpoi, Bicholim, Cuncolim, Curchorem and Canacona while bypoll is taking place at Navelim Zilla Panchayat constituency.

A total of 423 candidates are in the electoral fray. Highest number of 95 candidates are contesting for CCP wards while 48 candidates are in the fray in Curchorem, 37 in Pernem, 31 in Canacona and 23 in Valpoi. Though the elections are not being contested on party symbols but political parties and MLAs have formed their panels and thrown their weight behind the candidates.

According to State Election Commission (SEC) officials, 19.34 per cent polls had taken place till 1000 hrs in the six municipal councils.(UNI)
