Usha Naidu inaugurates Reverse Osmosis plant in Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep, Jan 2 : Ms Usha Naidu, wife of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, has inaugurated a Reverse Osmosis plant at Bangaram Islands in Lakshadweep Today.
National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has successfully commissioned the 50,000 litres per day capacity sea water Reverse Osmosis plant at Bangaram, in the Lakshadweep group of Islands, with the support of Lakshadweep Public Works Department (LPWD).
This plant is second of its kind commissioned by NIOT in these Islands.
The first plant with a capacity of 25,000 liters per day was commissioned by NIOT at Bitra Island in 2014-15 with the support of LPWD.
The flow rate of intake pumping system is around 5 litres per second. The recovery ratio of the RO plant is around 25 per cent. The reject seawater from plant is diluted by bypassing the intake water to reduce the reject water TDS from 45000 ppm to 36000 ppm.
This arrangement protects the eco-system around the plant. The length of the intake seawater pipeline and outtake pipeline is around 35 m and 45 m respectively.
Later, the Vice President shared a photo in his twitter account that he and his wife drinking the first glass of water from the plant. https://t.co/SqjELUV8CC.(UNI)
