Deoria (UP), May 3 : Two people died and eight were injured when a pickup van collided with a stationary container in Sadar Kotwali area of Deoria district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a police officer said.
Circle Officer (CO) Shreyas Tripathi said the incident took place when an orchestra party was returning to Mau district after performing in a programme in Chauri Chaura area in Gorakhpur district. “Near Sharma dhaba the pick-up rammed into the stationary container on Deoria-Gorakhpur road,” he said.
He said that Ramkesh (25) and Deepika (23) travelling in the pickup van were killed on the spot. “Nandlal, Rahul, Mahendra, Prince, Prithvi Sahni, Prince Sahani, all residents of Mau district along with Sarita Mishra and Puja, both residents of Odisha were injured in the accident and have been admitted to medical college,” he said.
The CO said the container parked along the road has been impounded and the families of the deceased have been informed. “It is suspected that the incident took place as the driver of the van dozed off,” he said.(UNI)
