UP: A museum will be built in the village of novelist Munshi Premchanda: Senior

LUCKNOW, NOV 4 : The ancestral village of great novelist Munshi Premchanda Lamhi in Varanasi district will be transformed into a museum and a proposal of Rs 10 crore has been prepared and sent to the government for approval in this regard.

As soon as its approval is received, the construction work of the museum will be started. There will be many parts of the museum, in which apart from the virtual museum, other items related to household items and their memories will be kept. Through this museum, fans of the novelist Munshi Premchand will get an opportunity to connect with his life.

Tourism and Culture Minister of Uttar Pradeh Jaiveer Singh said on Saturday that Munshi Premchand depicted the ironies of the society through his writings. “The real face of the society emerges in his writings.

He aroused public awareness towards social evils. In fact, on one hand, he highlighted all the distortions prevalent in the society in his work, while on the other hand, he also explained the ways to solve them,” he said.

Singh said, “The entire life events of such a timeless writer will get a place in this museum. Today’s new generation will be able to know Munshi Premchand closely.”

The Minister said that at present, novelist Munshi Premchand’s village Lamhi is a tourist destination. “Some literature lovers consider his ancestral house as a temple. There are three buildings there. “A building has been constructed recently. In this the Tourism Department will create a virtual museum.

Here the books, photographs and other collections related to the novelist will be available to the people to view and read online,” he said.

He said, “The second building is where Munshi Premchand lived. Almost all the items related to their household will be collected here. Be it cot or bed, stove or utensils. Research will also be conducted for this. A landscape will be developed at the third place where the monument is built and the Lamhi Festival is organised.”

Singh said that the Tourism Department will develop basic facilities for tourists along with the museum here. “Pathways, benches and lighting will be constructed as per the people’s proposal. Construction of a museum in Lamhi, the village of Munshi Premchand, will inspire the youth.

His fans will be able to know his journey from an ordinary teacher to becoming a great litterateur. Also, it is a very favourite place for tourists. Along with the museum, basic facilities will also be developed.” he said.

The Minister said that the Tourism Department is seriously considering developing the places associated with great men, writers and litterateurs from the tourism point of view.(UNI)
