The UN’s campaign against violence against women is led by Bhumi Pednekar.
NEW DELHI, NOV 29: One of the most politically aware Indians, young Bollywood star Bhumi Pednekar has consistently spoken up to raise awareness of the pressing social concerns that face our country.
She is a very progressive person who has repeatedly demonstrated that she will act morally to bring about great social change in India. This time, she has been chosen to serve as the face of a UNDP campaign against violence against women.
In a statement, Bhumi stated, “Violence has horrible mental and physical effects. We must remove gender-based violence from our culture since it is a pervasive social problem.”
“As a responsible Indian citizen, I want to do all in my power to educate people about this societal ill and attempt to make them more sensitive so that we can stop gender-based violence. It is an honour to collaborate with UNDP on this significant project to effect change in our nation “She went on to say.
“It is imperative that we all band together, work together, and make a commitment to changing public perceptions and eradicating associated stigmas. This will take time and a lot of work, but it is a crucial step to give our nation’s women and girls a safety net “Bhumi tacked on.
Gender-based violence affects more than one in three women throughout the course of their lifetimes. One of the most frequent violations of human rights is violence against women.
Bhumi will next be seen in the December 16 release of “Govinda Naam Mera,” as well as in the films Afwaah, Bheed, Lady Killer, and Mere Husband Ki Biwi.(PHN)
