The revision petition of Asaduddin Owaisi is taken up by the Telangana High Court.
HYDERABAD, Feb. 8: Asaduddin Owaisi, the MP for Hyderabad and president of AIMIM, filed a Civil Revision Petition, which was heard by Telangana High Court Judge Laksmi Narayana Alishetty on Thursday.
Owaisi had appeared in court since February 27 was the next hearing date in the defamation claim against him. In a defamation lawsuit, a petition was filed to overturn the ruling made on July 6, 2023, by the Chief Judge of the City Civil Court. Recall that on September 29, 2017, Heera Gold managing director Nowhera Shaikh filed a civil defamation suit against Owaisi, claiming the MP had made multiple defamatory remarks in a newspaper. Shaikh sought damages from Owaisi in the amount of Rs 100 crore.
According to the petitioner’s attorney, the filed plaint does not establish a valid cause of action. The defamation lawsuit’s foundation—a news article—is not referenced at all. He further argued that because the petitioner is a politician, there are ulterior motives for filing this plaint on such enormous damages. According to Asadudin’s attorney, who cited a number of rulings, a damages claim cannot be brought before a final order is given on a comparable criminal petition.
The court postponed the case to Wednesday due to a lack of time.
On September 29, 2017, Nowhera Shaikh, the managing director of Heera Gold, filed a civil defamation complaint against Owaisi, claiming that the MP had made multiple defamatory remarks in a newspaper and asking for damages of Rs 100 crore.
