The progression of SP Singh Baghel from Union Min to Mulayam’s security detail
NEW DELHI, JUNE 9 : From being the security officer of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav to being appointed as the Union Minister Satya Pal Singh Baghel has come a long way.
Baghel, who has won from Agra seat for the second time, started his career as a Sub-Inspector in UP Police during which he was deployed in Mulayam’s security. It was Mulayam, who introduced him to active politics and gave him a ticket from Jalesar seat, which Baghel represented thrice.
After being suspended from SP, Baghel joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and was elected to Rajya Sabha. The 63-year-old leader later quit BSP and joined BJP.
In 2015 he was appointed as the national president of OBC Morcha of BJP. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls BJP fielded Baghel from Agra and he won. After this he was appointed as the Union Minister.
In 2024 the party again fielded him from Agra and he was reelected.(UNI)
