T’gana govt announces summer holidays for schools, colleges from Apr 27
Hyderabad, April 25 : Telangana Government on Sunday declared summer holidays for students of Schools and Junior Colleges in the state from April 27 to May 31 in view of the surge in covid-19 cases.
April 26 is the last working day for this academic period and the decision for reopening of schools and junior colleges will be announced on June 1 depending on the situation, State Education Minister Sabitha Indrareddy who reviewed on summer holidays with the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and other officials, said in a statement here.
Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, the government had earlier cancelled the 10th class examinations and passed about 5.21 lakh students and promoted about 53.79 lakh students studying first to ninth classes to higher classes.
On Saturday, Telangana witnessed the highest number of Covid-19 cases as well as deaths in a single day spike with 8,126 fresh infections and 38 more fatalities, the state Health Department said in a bulletin here on Sunday.
The cases tally stands at over 3.95 lakh while the toll rose to 1,999.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 1,259, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (676) and Rangareddy ( 591), the bulletin added.(UNI)
