Telangana’s Initiative: Integration Policy for Returned Migrants

Hyderabad January 24: Telangana might be the first state in the nation to implement a program aimed at reintegrating returning migrants into society. The state labor department intends to construct a state-level resource center to assist migrants in reintegrating into society and creating job opportunities in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), International Organization for Migration, and UN Women.

The only nations in South Asia that have developed such international plans to date are Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. This region serves as the hub for migrant workers who are traveling to other countries, particularly the Gulf.

In order to plan a support system for returning migrants, a meeting with all of these parties and KPMG was conducted on Tuesday. Though the actual number of migrant workers and those coming home is not available as sometimes many migrate abroad through irregular methods.

Official: Training for returning migrants will be based on the demands of the labor marketOf the state’s labor migration to other countries, Nizamabad, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and Jagtial are thought to account for 70%.

It is necessary to provide access to loans, business support, and technical training and reskilling in accordance with labor market demands. According to E Gangadhar, additional commissioner of the labor department, “there has to be agreement between source and destination countries to ensure our migrants’ safety, to see they have better health and other facilities, and also make their return from destination country easy.”

According to officials, the policy will be finalized with the understanding that these migratory workers frequently have limited opportunities for reintegration upon their return, as well as few outlets for support and grievance reporting in their destination nations.

The suggested goals of the strategy include reaching financial objectives, employment, education, family distress, health emergencies in destination nations, support for managing one’s personal finances, access to justice, social protection, healthcare, old age, and a safe environment.
