Telangana urges center to establish IIHT, Handloom Export Promotion Council
Hyderabad, Jan 21 : Telangana Minister for Industries and IT, K T Rama Rao (KTR) Today urged the Union government to establish an Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) and the National Textile Research Institute and Handloom Export Promotion Council (NTRIHEPC) in the state.
In a letter addressed to Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goel, KTR said after the bifurcation of the State of Andhra Pradesh, the existing Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Venkatagiri has gone to the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
At present there is no such institute in Telangana State to offer courses in Diploma in Handloom Technology,” the Minister said.
Sufficient land with infrastructure is available at Handloom Park, Pochampally, Yadadri Bhongir District in the state to establish the institute, he added.
The Minister also requested the centre to set up National Textile Research Institute and Handloom Export Promotion Council in Hyderabad.(UNI)
