Telangana records 6,551 new COVID-19 cases, 43 fatalities until Sunday night

Hyderabad, April 26 : A surge in COVID-19 cases continues unabated in Telangana with the state recording one of the biggest single-day jump of 6,551 fresh Coronavirus cases until 2000 hours on Sunday while the cumulative caseload breached the four-lakh mark to stand at 4,01,783 so far.

There was a slight dip in the positive cases reported in the last 24 hours owing to lesser number of swab samples tested on Sunday being a holiday.

After a record 43 patients died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the cumulative fatalities due to the pandemic mounted to 2,042 so far translating a case fatality rate of 0.50 per cent while the countrywide morality of 1.1 per cent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Monday.

A total of 3,804 people have recuperated from Coronavirus statewide pushing the overall recoveries thus far to 3,34,144 constituting a recovery rate of 83.16 per cent while the National average was 82.6 per cent.

The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 65,597, the bulletin said.

Between Saturday and Sunday, 73,275 swab samples were tested in the state to detect the contagious virus and out of which the reports of 4,176 swab samples are awaited.

Cumulatively, over 1.25 crore COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far

since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The worst-affected Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) continued to be the chief contributor of the virus by registering the highest 1,418 Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district 554, Rangareddy district 482, Nizamabad district 389, Sangareddy district 368, Warangal urban district 329, Jagityal district 276, Siddipet district 268, Mahaboobnagar district 226, Karimnagar district 222, Bhadradri Kothagudem district 164, Mancherial district 152, Mahabubabad disrict 138, Vikarabad district 137, Nagarkurnool district 122, Rajanna Sircilla disrict 121, Khammam district 118, Warangal Rural district 113 and Kamareddy district 110.

The remaining new Coronavirus cases have been registered by other districts, the bulletin added.(UNI)
