Telangana govt seeks Centre to sanction Hyderabad-Nagpur Industrial Corridor project

Hyderabad, Sep 3 : Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao Today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sanction the Hyderabad-Nagpur industrial corridor (HNIC) to promote economic development of the region through creation of a long-term enabling environment.

In a memorandum, submitted to the Prime Minister in Delhi, Mr Rao said it is proposed to establish an Industrial corridor between Hyderabad and Nagpur on the line of Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor, covering a length of 585 km, with the end terminals at Nagpur in Maharashtra and Hyderabad in Telangana state respectively.

The project aims to exploit the central location of Nagpur which is proposed as a Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Hyderabad, which is a major IT and manufacturing destination, the CM said.

The proposed corridor will be designed to be connected through high speed passenger and freight rail connectivity between Hyderabad and Nagpur and also by six/eight laning of the existing National Highway (NH)-44 between Hyderabad and Nagpur, he said.

The Project immediate influence area is well connected by air and the existing and proposed Bity Gas Distribution (CGD) network lines will e an added advantage for the HNIC, Mr Rao said in the memorandum.

The Project influence area of HNIC comprises a combined population of 40 million, constituting approximately 27 per cent of total population of both Telangana and Maharashtra states.

These regions are proposed to be self-sustained industrial townships with world-class infrastructure, road and rail connectivity for freight movement to and from logistics hubs, served by domestic/International air connectivity, reliable power, quality social infrastructure and provide a globally competitive environment conducive for setting up businesses.

On similar lines, the Telangana government is also keen to develop the Warangal-Hyderabad Industrial Corridor (WHIC). The sector will be covered with the existing rail line from Nagpur to Hyderabad and road link from Hyderabad to Bhupalapatnam through an ongoing National Highway project, he said.

He requested that the Government of India sanction the two industrial projects which will have significant impact on employment generation in less developed regions of the country and will lead to immense economic development.(UNI)
