Steep decline in new cases of Covid in AP, high death rate continues

Vijayawada, Jun 7 :There is a steep decline in fresh cases of Covid-19 in Andhra Pradesh but the deaths of a large number of patients continued.

According to a health bulletin, 64,800 swab samples were diagnosed in a period of 24 hours ending at 9 am today of which 4,872 were tested positive for Coronavirus. As many as 86 patients died of Covid-19 in a 24 hours period. The pandemic has claimed the lives of 11,552 patients so far.

As many as 13,702 patients recovered in a period of 24 hours and there are 1,14,510 active cases in the state now. The tally of positive cases has gone up to 17,63,211 while 16,37,149 patients have been discharged from various hospitals as they recovered. So far 1,98,56,521 swab samples have been diagnosed in the state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the extension of Covid curfew till June 20. At the same time, the relaxation of Covid curfew was extended till 1400 hours from 12 noon.

The officials told the Chief Minister during a review meeting that the Covid cases started decreasing in the state. The positivity rate had declined to 10.73 per cent while it was 25.56 per cent on May 16 and active cases decreased to 1.23 lakh while they were 2.11 lakh on May 17. The officials told him that the recovery rate increased to 92.33 per cent.(UNI)
