Steam engine of British era 1st train to be installed at Thane railway station

Thane, Apr 1: The steam engine of the first train that ran from historic Victoria Terminus train station to Thane way back on April 16, 1853, and created a history will be installed at Thane railway station premises, it was stated here on Thursday.

The engine has arrived in the city and will be installed soon, said Thane MLA Sanjay Kelkar.

It was apt to install the engine at Thane where history was created several years back, he said and informed he had followed up with the Railway Ministry for the same.

The first train in the country carried around 400 passengers, he said and pointed that the journey itself then took 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Mr. Kelkar described this as a proud moment and said this needs to be remembered and cherished.

Likewise, all historical monuments in the city and the district would be preserved in the coming days, he added. (UNI)
