Shamir Tandon goes digital to motivate his audience
Panaji, May 24: Composer and curator Shamir Tandon has taken digital platforms to motivate audiences and also reminisce jewels of the country.
Speaking exclusively to UNI, he said,” Poets always write deep meaningful poems that touch us and our hearts, poetry is like music – every poet has his style and every poet specializes in writing on certain subjects. I salute poets to put in a few words experience of their lives with respect to love, friendship, parents, philosophy, politics, etc.”
When asked why did he come up on social media especially to speak about these poets and their poems, he said,”I think our poets are not celebrated, people put film stars on a high pedestal and now musicians are getting their due too. It’s time poets get their limelight and I wanted to talk about them so that people follow them too.”
Mr Tondon said he loved Dr Bashir Badr and Nida Fazil as their poetry was versatile and transported one to another world.
”I love Dr Bashir Badr, Nida Fazli to name a few since their poetry is versatile and transports us to another world their words resonate with me. It’s simple and yet meaningful and they have covered all topics,” he said.
In today’s times, when music has evolved multiple folds from Bollywood to independent music and now even digital music, do poets have any importance?
He said, ”In fact, poets will be most relevant, now people wish to listen to good lyrics. when a person listens to a song its not just the melody, the person sings along, and if its good poetry and not mundane lyrics, the probability of a song having a long shelf life is higher and irrespective of a song being in a film or outside independent, its paramount to have good lyrics that people connect with.”
Sharing his memories of being at Cannes, he said, ”Cannes was once in a lifetime experience because when you win and then they invite you to perform, the world is just different, there is respect and reverence for our work.
The international fraternity gives you credit and shows love, logistically we flew best and stayed at the best and were given the red carpet. The awe they showed us for the work we have accomplished is something we are yet to see in our own country.”
On associating music to various causes, he said, ”I see that music is not just for entertainment, I think there is more to music. It can be therapeutic and not many composers use music to cure people so we thought that we should use music to reach out awareness of causes to people at large and hence we first used music to create awareness bout gender equality and then bout mental health awareness.”
About his future plans, he said, ”There is film music and loads of independent singles that will release this year and next from my stable and I m excited. There is a wide range of pop, Edm, unplugged, and even ghazals and devotion. what I’m most excited about is the new series that I have launched: learnings from legends – the distance between 99 and 100, here I will share with all management principles and leadership motivation time management etc from the lens of music basis what I have learned from the legends who I have closely worked with.”(UNI)
