Fatehgarh Sahib, Jul 31: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Navjot Singh Sidhu said Shaheed Udham Singh is the symbol of unity and integrity of the country and he played a key role in the freedom struggle of the country.

“Today, it is essential that citizens must take inspiration from the life of Shaheed Udham Singh and fulfill their duty towards the progress of the country,” he said while addressing the function organised by the district administration at Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial here to pay tributes to the legendary martyr on the occasion of his martyrdom day.

“Our country got the independence with the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. Now it is our duty that we must fulfill their dreams by contributing to the development of our state and country,” the PPCC chief said.

Speaking on the occasion, PPCC Acting President and local MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra said Shaheed Udham Singh had given the message of unity and brotherhood which is a source of inspiration for our country.

He said the main purpose of celebrating the martyrdom days of such great martyrs is to make the younger generation aware of the sacrifices and our rich heritage. He said today we should take a pledge that we will strengthen our unity and contribute to the progress of our country.

Mr. Sidhu also paid tributes at Mata Chakreshwari Devi Temple, Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Sri Jyoti Swarup, Rouza Sharif, and Mata Naina Devi temple. (UNI)
