Mumbai, April 16:  The BSE Sensex on Friday advanced by 161.60 pts to 48,965.28 in the opening session as buying was witnessed in Consumer Durable, IT, Telecom, and Consumer Discretionary Goods and Services stocks.

The Nifty too rose by 42.05 pts to 14,623.50.

The Sensex registered intra days high and low at 48,997.81 and 48,694.49 pts respectively.

The Nifty registered intra days high and low at 14,653 and 14,559 respectively.

The Mid Cap moved up up by 0.84 pc and the Small Cap by 0.94 pc.

In 30 scrips 23 advanced while 7 declined.

The gainers were Ultracemco by 2.38 pc to Rs 6693.15, Asian Paints by 2.32 pc to Rs 2646.40, HCL Technologies by 1.75 pc to Rs 1008.70, HDFC by 1.03 pc to Rs 2573.20, and Tech Mahindra by 0.97 pc to Rs 1003.50.

The losers were ICICI Bank by 0.89 pc to Rs 570.40, Reliance industries by 0.68 pc to Rs 1930.65, Axis Bank by 0.45 pc to Rs 665.80, Bajaj finance by 0.35 pc to Rs 4644, and IndusInd Bank by 0.29 pc to Rs 855.80. (UNI)
