SCR commissions automatic coach washing plant in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Dec 24 : As part of environment friendly measures and to enhance the cleanliness of Coach Exteriors, South Central Railways (SCR) has commissioned an Automatic Coach Washing plant at Coaching Depot here.
In addition, a new Pit Line at the busy Kazipet Yard has also been inaugurated, as part of the capacity enhancement measures.
Both these initiatives were inaugurated by SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya through virtual means from Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on Friday, a release here said.
To ensure better quality of exterior coach cleaning while at the same time conserving the precious water resource, SCR has already commissioned automatic coach washing Plants at Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Kakinada.
In addition to these, now, the automatic coach washing plant has been set up at Hyderabad to cater the cleaning mechanism for trains starting at Hyderabad station. The approximate cost of this plant is Rs 1.78 crore.
The automatic coach washing plant is able to achieve complete exterior cleaning of a rake 24 coaches in about 8-10 minutes time. Moreover, the fresh water consumption for automatic coach washing gets reduced by around 85 per cent as compared to the normal manual washing method.
For effective maintenance of passenger trains and also to enhance safety, there was a requirement of a pit line at Kazipet station. In this direction, pit line has been constructed with the approximate cost of Rs 17.27 crore. The pit line commissioned at Kazipet station accommodates around 26 coaches in one go for maintenance, the release added.(UNI)
