Hyderabad/New Delhi, Sep 16: In a big relief to all concerned, the Supreme Court Today gave its green signal for immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in Hussainsagar lake in Hyderabad.
After hearing the plea of the Telangana Government seeking permission for the immersion of PoP Ganesh idols in the lake, the Apex Court in its Order said that the permission for idols immersion was being given ‘for this year’ only.
Questioning as to why steps were not taken earlier, the Top Court said a lot of money was spent for the beautification (of Tank Bund abetting the lake) but this was not yielding results.
The Court directed the government to file an undertaking and implement all the directions of the High Court from next year.
The petition in the Supreme Court was filed by the GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar after the High Court had passed an order banning the immersion of PoP Ganesh idols in Hussainsagar lake and other water bodies in Hyderabad.(UNI)
