Santhi Kumari to Chair Special Screening Committee for MCC Implementation

HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 10 :Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari on Tuesday announced the establishment of a special screening committee to oversee the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the state.

In a Government Order (GO) issued for this purpose, she stated that the formation of this special committee is in accordance with the directives of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

According to the GO, the committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary.

The Committee will assess each proposal before forwarding it to the Election Commission of India. This assessment will be based on the Commission’s existing instructions and clarifications available in the form of compendium/instructions accessible on the ‘ECI portal.’

Proposals cleared by the Screening Committee will be submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana, along with comprehensive details and a note explaining the urgency, i.e., why the proposal cannot wait until the conclusion of the poll or election.

The CEO of Telangana will then take further action to forward only those proposals approved by the Screening Committee to the Election Commission, along with a self-contained note, and will promptly communicate the decision of the Election Commission of India upon receipt.

The General Administration (Cabinet) Department will take the necessary steps to convene the MCC Screening Committees, the GO added.(UNI)
