Robots to douse fire in Delhi: Satyendar Jain
New Delhi, May 20 : Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday said that the national capital has inducted two firefighter robots in the fire department’s fleet to douse the fire with robots. He said that the fire brigade staff will not have to put their lives at risk after the arrival of the remote control robots. These robots can release water with high pressure at the rate of 2400 litres per minute. Both spray and simple water squirt can be operated via a wireless remote attached to this robot, said the Delhi Home Minister. In case the fire is not controlled by water, Jain said the chemicals and foam from robots will control the fire. The robot is said to be made of material, which is not affected by fire, smoke, heat or any other external subject. In its lower part, there is a crawler belt (track) above the tires, like army tanks, with the help of which it can go anywhere easily. It also has a ventilation fan, which can be used to keep the machine cool. The robot can cover an area of about 100 metres at once and is capable of dousing fire immediately. Jain said that special training has also been provided to the firefighters of Delhi Fire Service to operate the robot. A separate SOP has also been prepared, which will be followed to douse the fire. A high resolution camera is also installed in the robot, which is capable of showing clear pictures despite fire, smoke and water. There are connectors in the rear of the robot, through which pipes are connected to the water tanker. There is a large fan on its upper part, which not only acts like an exhaust fan to throw out smoke, but also helps in throwing water showers far and wide. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, said: Our government has procured remote-controlled fire fighting machines. Our brave fireman can now fight fires from a maximum safe distance of upto 100 metres. This will help reduce collateral damage and save precious lives. Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Service, said that the robot extracts the smoke from the fire through its ventilator system. Attached to the fire engines, the robot has a diesel fuel tank of 60 litres. The special thing about these robots is that they also rotate at 360 degrees, and can be operated in narrow streets.(UNI)
