Reddy is urged by Pradhan to maintain Bhubaneswar’s 7th-century Kapileshwar Temple.

Bhubaneswar, May 9 : Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy to preserve and develop the 7th-century Kapileshwar Temple located at the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Pradhan in a letter to Reddy said Kapileshwar Temple is one of the oldest and most revered temples of Odisha which was believed to be built in the 7th century by the Somvanshi dynasty.
The temple is associated with Lord Shiva and is famous for its beautiful architecture, sculptures, and paintings. It is also a popular pilgrimage site for devotees who flock to the temple during Shivaratri and other festivals.
However, the temple is facing serious threats from urbanization, pollution and neglect, Pradhan said, adding that the temple complex is surrounded by encroachments, garbage dumps and sewage outlets.
The Union Minister further said the temple structure is deteriorating due to lack of maintenance and conservation.
The temple art and heritage are fading away due to vandalism and weathering. The temple atmosphere is losing its sanctity and serenity due to noise and disturbance.
Pradhan requested Reddy to intervene in this matter and urge the Archaeological Survey of India (API) to adopt Kapileshwar Temple under its protection and development scheme.
ASI, he said, is the premier organization in India for the preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage.
The Union Minister said ASI has the expertise, resources, and authority to restore and enhance the glory of Kapileshwar Temple.
It could also help in creating awareness and appreciation among the public for this ancient and sacred monument.
Pradhan urged Reddy to consider his request and take necessary action at the earliest and ensure Kapileshwar Temple is notified as a protected structure by the ASI.
Kapileshwar Temple, he said is not only a religious site but also one of the treasures that deserves our respect and care.(UNI)
