Rare surgery for removal of black fungus performed on 15 month old boy in Kakinada GGH
Kakinada, Jun 8 : A team of ENT doctors have performed a rare surgery for removal of black fungus (Mucar mycosis) on fifteen month old boy at the Government general hospital here on June 3 and the patient is fast recovering.
Claiming such surgery on a kid is first of its kind in the country, Dr Ravula Mahalakshmi superintendent of the hospital said that the boy Anisetti Janaki Nandan, native of Penugonda village, West Godavari district was now hale and healthy and is likely to be discharged soon. She told media persons at the hospital on Monday that the GGH was treating the covid patients and also those affected by the black fungus of three districts including East and West Godavari besides Visakhapatnam.
So far 152 black fungus cases were admitted in the GGH and surgeries were performed on 21 patients successfully and 39 patients were discharged .As of now there are 92 patients suffering from Black fungus were undergoing treatment.73 among them were infected by black fungus after recovering from covid and 19 are getting treatment for both covid and black fungus, she added.
Stating that surgeries were being performed on all the fit cases for black fungus, Dr Mahalakshmi said the others are giving treatment by medication including tablets and injections.
The surgery known as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), would not cause any injury on the face as the endoscope would be sent through nose and all the disposables and the medicines were being arranged by the district collector without any difficulty, she added.
Dr Mahalakshmi further advised the people if they have noticed any symptoms of black fungus such as pain , mum ness and swelling on face , swelling of eyes, itching of eyes and nose to get tested at the ENT OP in the GGH here for getting the required treatment without delay.
She also advised the people to keep the diabetes under control, take nutritious diet, boiled eggs without yellow so that they could maintain good health.(UNI)
