Rain causes Hamirpur to lose Rs. 56.21 billion

Hamirpur (HP), July 11 : Heavy rains coupled with cloud bursts and flash floods have claimed property amounting to 56.21 crore rupees in the district alone since the start of the pre-monsoon season.Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that while the Jal Shakti Vibhag had suffered a loss of 31.31 crore rupees, it was 23.77 crore rupees in respect of the Public Works Department.He said that five people had so far been killed due to the rain, and the number of animals was fourteen. Besides, twenty-three kutcha houses, one pucca house, and eleven retaining walls (dangas) were also damaged fully and partly.DC said that the loss to cross was around 28 lakh rupees and that to fruit crops was around eight lakh rupees.He said that the River Beas and its tributaries like Kunah Khad, Maan Khad, and Chainth Khad were in spate, and people had been advised not to go near them for their own safety.Meanwhile, after ninety-six hours of heavy rain and inclement weather, the sky became clear and the sun shone fully in the morning hours.However, the department of meteorology has warned of more rain in the district on Tuesday and in the coming days.Bairwa said that the Chief Minister had talks with the district officers and directed them to restore the services for which adequate funds would be provided.He said that the Chief Minister also paid a visit to the areas where floods had created havoc in the district. The chief minister left for a tour of flood-affected areas of the state on Tuesday morning after spending a week in his home district of Hamirpur.(UNI)
