Puducherry, Jul 9: The Union Territory recorded 126 new Covid-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours taking the infection tally to 1,18,697 and death to 1,768, the health department said here today.

According to the Covid-19 status released by the health department, of the 6,048 swab tests taken yesterday, 126 tested positive for the virus. A total of 103 new cases were reported in the Puducherry region, six in Karaikal, and 17 in the Mahe regions. No new cases were reported in the Yanam region.

As many as192 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours of which 145 were from the Puducherry region,32 from Karaikal, one from Yanam, and 14 from the Mahe region.

Currently,159 persons are being treated in the Puducherry region,22 in Karaikal,11 in Yanam, and 38 in Mahe regions. Another,1465 positive cases are under home isolation in all four regions of the union territory.

So far, 1,18,697 persons were infected by the virus of which 115234 were treated and discharged and 1768 died leaving 1695 active cases here.

A 66-year-old man with Diabetes mellitus, Coronary Artery Disease, and Systolic Hypertension as comorbidity died in the government medical college here yesterday due to Covid Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome(ARDS).

The test positivity rate in the UT stood at 2.08 percent, case fatality rate 1.49 percent, and recovery rate 97.08 percent.

As many as 5,64,970 persons including health care workers, front line workers, and the general public were so far given Covid vaccine in the union territory. (UNI)
