President meets Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina
Dhaka, Dec 15 : President Ram Nath Kovind Today met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Hotel Sonargaon here and reviewed the bilateral ties.
Both sides reviewed progress in the multifaceted & comprehensive bilateral ties, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
“The two leaders also recalled the spirit of 1971 Liberation War and expressed satisfaction at the joint celebration of Maitri Diwas,” the MEA added.
Earlier, Kovind, who is on his three-day visit to Dhaka, paid floral tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh at the National Memorial in Savar.
Kovind reached Tejgaon by road from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from where he went to Savar National Memorial by helicopter at 12:35 pm.
He visited National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar and paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
At the memorial, the President stood in silence for a while. A smart contingent of the armed forces paid homage to the martyrs in military style while the bugle played a sad tune of the bugle.
After paying their respects, Kovind planted a tree sapling in the premises of the memorial. He also signed the visitors’ book at the memorial. He was accompanied by his wife Savita Kovind and daughter Swati Kovind.
After Savar, he left for Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to pay homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He is in Dhaka for a three-day state visit to mark the golden jubilee of the war of liberation and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was received by Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanam. The two heads of state exchanged greetings at the time.
Later, a temporary reception was set up at the VVIP terminal where a smart contingent of the Armed Forces gave the Guard of Honour to the President of India. Later, Kovind toured the parade.(UNI)
