Pondy LG kick starts ‘Mahotsav’
Puducherry, Mar 12: Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan kick started the celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, here Today.
According to a Raj Nivas release, there will be a grand celebrations for the next 75 weeks from today to August 15, to mark 75 years of Indian independence. To mark the occasion, she flagged off a boat race with 75 boats and a cycle rally with 75 students participating. A tree planting initiative to plant 75,000 saplings was started on the Promenade beach and the Governor also participated at the commemoration of 91st anniversary of the Dandi March, a special event with students and NSS volunteers.
She also honoured veteran freedom fighters who took active involvement in India’s freedom struggle. Addressing the public on the occasion, she said that Puducherry is the land of freedom fighters and social reformers like Subramnian Bharathi, Aurobindo and Bharathidasan.
Her advisers Chandramouli and Maheswari and chief secretary Ashwini Kuamr, among others participated in the function.(UNI)
