PM Modi Opens Jan Aushadhi Kendras at 18 Railway Stations

CHENNAI, NOV 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Jan Aushadhi Kendras (Makkal Marunthagam) at 18 Railway stations across India, including two in Southern Railway.

A Southern Railway release here said the two Jan Aushadi Kendras were unveiled at Nagercoil Junction and Thanjavur Junction in Tamil Nadu.

Mr Modi inaugurated two new Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) at Southern Railway stations, furthering the mission of providing affordable healthcare to the public. These two new outlets are part of a larger initiative, with the PM unveiling a total of 18 Jan Aushadi Kendras across India.

The newly inaugurated Jan Aushadi Kendras at Southern Railway stations will provide a wide range of quality generic medicines at affordable prices, significantly reducing healthcare expenses for travellers and the public.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched with the aim of making essential medications accessible to all, particularly those from economically weaker sections. These Kendras play a vital role in ensuring affordable healthcare by offering medicines that are cheaper than branded alternatives.

Southern Railway now has six Jan Aushadhi Kendras, including the new ones at Nagercoil and Thanjavur stations. The other four Kendras are located at Palakkad, Tiruchchirappalli, Erode and Dindigul stations all of which began operations on March 12, 2024.

With the addition of these new Jan Aushadhi Kendras, Southern Railway continues to support the Government of India’s commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare for the traveling public.
